Will AI replace chief information, technology and security officers in Singapore?
AI tools can already draft strategy papers, summarise threat reports, review technical designs and prepare board updates, so a good deal of the analysis and writing in these roles is changing. The senior work still needs a person: deciding where to invest, owning the outcome when something goes wrong, and earning the trust of the board, staff and regulators. Expect the daily workload to shift a lot, while the accountability stays with the officer.
Why it scores 7
CIO/CTO/CSO roles are fundamentally digital with significant analytical and documentation components (strategy docs, threat assessments, reports, technical analysis) that AI can substantially augment. However, the core work—strategic decision-making, leadership accountability, complex judgment in novel situations, and stakeholder trust-building—cannot be automated or fully delegated to AI, creating a natural ceiling on exposure.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What chief information, technology and security officers can do
Use AI to draft first versions
Let tools produce early drafts of strategy papers, risk assessments and board reports, then check them against what you know about your own organisation. This frees time for the decisions only you can make.
Test AI outputs before relying on them
Check the technical analysis and threat summaries that tools produce for gaps and confident errors. Your judgement on what is credible becomes a core part of the job.
Set clear rules for AI use
Work out where staff may use AI tools, what data must never go into them, and who is accountable for the results. Few people are better placed to write these rules than the officer who owns the risk.
