Will AI replace physiotherapists in Singapore?
AI is unlikely to replace physiotherapists in Singapore. Software can already help with reading assessment notes, drafting exercise plans, tracking progress and writing up records, which saves time on paperwork. The core of the job still needs a person in the room: feeling how a joint or muscle responds, adjusting treatment as the patient moves, and encouraging someone through a hard recovery.
Why it scores 4
Physiotherapists require hands-on, in-person treatment and real-time patient interaction—a natural barrier to automation. However, AI can augment peripheral tasks like initial assessment analysis, exercise prescription design, progress documentation, and treatment planning, increasing worker productivity. The core therapeutic work (manual manipulation, adaptive exercise guidance) cannot be substantially automated.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What physiotherapists can do
Let software draft your paperwork
Try AI tools for progress notes and routine exercise sheets, then check every line against what you saw in the session. The time you save can go back to patients.
Sharpen your hands-on assessment skills
Manual examination and reading how a patient moves are the parts software cannot do. Keep practising them and learn from senior colleagues in complex cases.
Learn to explain AI-made plans
Patients may arrive with exercise advice from an app or chatbot. Be ready to review it, correct what is unsuitable and explain why your plan fits their body and goals.
