Will AI replace podiatrists in Singapore?
AI is unlikely to replace podiatrists in Singapore. Software can already help read foot scans, spot patterns in assessments and draft routine notes, which can save time. The hands-on work still needs a person: examining feet, treating nails and skin, doing minor procedures and judging how a patient walks and lives. Patients also need someone in the room who can explain the problem and adjust the plan as it goes.
Why it scores 5
Podiatry has moderate AI exposure due to its mixed composition: diagnostic tasks (imaging analysis, condition assessment) are increasingly AI-capable and could boost practitioner productivity, but the core work—physical examination, hands-on treatment, minor procedures, and patient interaction—has natural automation barriers. The profession requires real-time clinical judgment and manual dexterity that AI cannot fully replace, though AI tools will likely enhance efficiency in analysis and support functions.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What podiatrists can do
Use AI for scans and paperwork
Try tools that help read images or draft clinical notes, and always check the result yourself. This frees time for patients while you stay responsible for every decision.
Deepen your hands-on treatment skills
Minor procedures, wound care and footwear and orthotic fitting depend on touch and judgement. Keep practising these, because they are the hardest parts of the job to hand to software.
Get better at explaining and coaching
Spend more of your time helping patients understand their condition and stick to a care plan. Clear, kind communication builds trust that a tool cannot give. SkillsFuture can help you find short courses if you want to build this.
