Will AI replace pre-primary teachers in Singapore?
AI is unlikely to replace pre-primary teachers in Singapore. The heart of the job is being with young children all day: watching over play, guiding behaviour, comforting them and building trust, and software cannot do that. AI tools can help with lesson ideas, newsletters and record-keeping, but those tasks are a small part of the work.
Why it scores 2
Pre-primary teaching is fundamentally dependent on real-time human interaction, hands-on supervision, and emotional engagement with young children aged 3–6. Core activities—managing groups, supervising play, behavioral guidance, and building relationships—cannot be meaningfully automated or replaced by AI. While administrative tasks like lesson planning and record-keeping could be AI-assisted, they are secondary to the primary work of classroom-based care and early learning.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What pre-primary teachers can do
Use AI for planning and paperwork
Try it for activity ideas, parent notes and progress records, then check everything against what you know of your own class. This can free up time for the children.
Sharpen your observation of each child
Noticing how a child plays, speaks and copes with feelings is hard for any tool to copy. Keep careful notes in your own words so that your judgement stays central.
Talk with parents about technology
Parents may ask about screens and AI in early learning. Be ready to explain what children still need from people, such as touch, talk and shared play.
