Will AI replace storekeepers in Singapore?
AI will change a good part of the paperwork storekeepers do, but it is unlikely to replace them outright. Software can already track stock, record deliveries and suggest reorder levels with little typing. The physical side still needs a person on site: checking what arrives, finding and moving stock, and sorting out damaged, missing or mislabelled items. Storekeepers who spend most of their time on data entry will see the biggest shift.
Why it scores 5
Storekeepers face moderate AI exposure due to their dual role: significant clerical/digital work in inventory tracking, data entry, and material recording (increasingly automatable via warehouse management systems and AI-driven optimization) is offset by persistent physical requirements in receiving, organizing, and locating stock that demand on-site presence and manual verification. While routine tasks are vulnerable to automation, the exception handling and spatial/operational judgment required in warehouses provide a natural barrier.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What storekeepers can do
Learn your stock system well
Get comfortable with the inventory system your store uses, including its reports and alerts. People who understand what the system is telling them can spot when it is wrong.
Get good at handling exceptions
Practise dealing with short deliveries, damaged goods and records that do not match the shelf. Machines struggle with these cases, so this is where your judgement matters most.
