Will AI replace teacher aides in Singapore?
AI is unlikely to replace teacher aides in Singapore. The core of the job is being in the room: watching students, steadying behaviour, and giving children comfort and attention as things happen. Software can help with some preparation and paperwork, such as making copies of materials or keeping simple records, but that is a small part of the day. Looking after students and building trust with them still needs a person.
Why it scores 2
Teacher aides require constant physical presence and real-time human interaction to supervise students, manage behavior, and provide emotional support—fundamentally resistant to automation. While some preparation and administrative tasks (photocopying, basic record-keeping) could be AI-assisted, they represent a minor part of the role; the core work of classroom engagement, student supervision, and relationship-building cannot be meaningfully displaced by AI.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What teacher aides can do
Let tools take over routine paperwork
If your school offers tools for simple records or preparing materials, try them on the small tasks. The time you save is better spent with students.
Sharpen your classroom support skills
Calming a restless child, supporting a student who is struggling, and spotting early signs of trouble are the heart of your work. Ask teachers for feedback and practise the approaches that work best.
Learn how teachers use new tools
Ask the teachers you work with how they use AI for lesson planning or marking. Knowing what the tools can and cannot do helps you support students who use them. SkillsFuture options may help if you want more structure.
