Will AI replace vehicle attendants in Singapore?
AI is unlikely to replace vehicle attendants in Singapore any time soon. Washing, cleaning and checking vehicles by hand needs a person on site with good dexterity, and software cannot do that work. The main change comes from machines such as automated car wash systems and diagnostic equipment, which take over some of the routine washing and checking, so fewer tasks may be done by hand.
Why it scores 2
Vehicle attendants perform routine manual work (washing, cleaning, basic maintenance checks) that requires physical presence and dexterity, providing inherent protection against AI automation. However, this occupation faces growing threat from robotic car wash systems and automated diagnostic equipment already in commercial use, making it more exposed than traditional skilled trades.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What vehicle attendants can do
Learn to run the automated equipment
As car wash and diagnostic machines become common, someone has to load vehicles, watch the machines and spot faults. Getting comfortable with this equipment makes you the person the employer wants on site.
Build skill in detailed hand cleaning
Machines miss corners, interiors and stubborn marks. Careful hand finishing and good attention to detail are still hard to automate and are what customers notice.
Add basic vehicle checking skills
Spotting worn tyres, leaks, warning lights or damage during a routine check is useful work that needs a trained eye. Ask your supervisor what you can learn on the job, and look at what SkillsFuture offers for related skills.
