Will AI replace car park attendants in Singapore?
AI is unlikely to replace car park attendants soon, but some of the routine work is already moving to machines. Payment systems and cameras that read number plates now handle much of the fee collection and the spotting of parking offences. A person is still needed on site to direct traffic, deal with faults and odd cases, and help drivers who are confused, stuck or upset.
Why it scores 3
Car park attendants require sustained physical presence and real-time interaction with drivers, creating a natural barrier to AI automation. While routine tasks like fee collection and violation detection are increasingly automated via payment systems and ANPR cameras, the human elements of traffic direction, exception handling, and customer assistance remain difficult for AI to replace without full roboticization of parking infrastructure.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What car park attendants can do
Get good at handling exceptions
Machines cope with the normal case and struggle with the rest, such as a lost ticket, a blocked lane or a payment that fails. Being the person who can sort these out quickly keeps you useful.
Learn how the gate and payment systems work
Knowing what the equipment does and why it fails lets you fix small problems or report them clearly. Ask your employer to show you the basics of the systems on your site.
Build your customer service and safety skills
Calm, clear help for drivers and confident traffic direction are hard for software to copy. Look at SkillsFuture options in customer service or site safety if you want a step towards supervisor work.
