Will AI replace market research interviewers in Singapore?
Parts of this job are already moving to software. Survey chatbots, voice transcription and automatic data entry can handle structured questionnaires and record answers with little human effort. People still matter where a respondent needs to be persuaded to take part, where answers need gentle probing, or where trust decides whether the replies are honest. So expect the routine recording work to shrink, while the face-to-face and phone conversation stays with people for now.
Why it scores 7
Enumerators conduct highly structured, digital work—recording responses, entering data, following standardized questionnaires—all of which AI can directly automate through survey chatbots, voice transcription, and data processing systems. The median wage (S$2,857) reflects routine clerical-type tasks with limited discretion. However, the human interview component and need for genuine rapport in quality research provides some resilience against full automation, preventing a rating of 8+.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What market research interviewers can do
Focus on the conversation itself
Practise explaining the purpose of a study clearly and putting hesitant respondents at ease. Software can ask set questions, but it is weaker at winning trust from someone who is unsure.
Learn to check automated transcripts
Get used to reviewing machine-made transcripts and data entries for mistakes and missing context. Being the person who catches errors makes you useful alongside the tools rather than replaced by them.
Build skill in open-ended probing
Work on follow-up questions that draw out detail when an answer is vague or guarded. This kind of listening and judgement is hard to automate. Look at what SkillsFuture offers for research or analysis skills to widen your options.
