Will AI replace foreign exchange brokers in Singapore?
AI will change a lot of foreign exchange broking in Singapore, and it will not remove the whole job. Software can already watch currency prices, spot patterns, price quotes and execute routine trades, so much of the screen-based work is moving to machines. People are still needed to build trust with clients, talk through complex or unusual positions, and make judgement calls when markets behave in ways the data does not predict.
Why it scores 7
Foreign exchange brokers operate entirely within digital systems analyzing markets and executing trades—prime territory for AI augmentation and algorithmic automation. Algorithmic trading already handles significant FX volume, and AI excels at pattern recognition in currency data and market prediction. However, client relationship management, trust-building, and strategic decision-making on complex positions provide some insulation from full automation, preventing a rating in the 8–9 range.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What foreign exchange brokers can do
Move toward client-facing work
Spend more of your time on the conversations that software cannot hold, such as advising clients on their currency needs and explaining risks plainly. Trust built over years is harder to automate than a routine trade.
Learn how the trading tools decide
Understand what the automated pricing and analysis tools in your firm do well and where they fail. Knowing when to trust a signal and when to question it makes you the person who checks the machine.
Specialise in complex positions
Build depth in the harder cases, such as large or unusual deals and clients with mixed exposures across several currencies. These need judgement and careful discussion. SkillsFuture can be one route to build this kind of depth.
