Will AI replace securities and finance dealers in Singapore?
AI tools can already do much of the core work of a dealer: reading market data, spotting patterns in prices, checking risk and placing routine trades. Software that trades by rules is already common, so a lot of this daily work is moving to machines. People are still needed to build trust with clients, make judgement calls in unusual markets, and stay personally accountable to regulators for what is done.
Why it scores 8
Securities and finance dealers work almost entirely on digital platforms analyzing market data and executing trades—tasks increasingly handled by algorithmic trading and AI analytics. Market analysis, risk assessment, and pattern detection in price movements are prime domains for AI automation. However, client relationship management, complex strategic decisions, and regulatory accountability requirements provide some protection against full automation.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What securities and finance dealers can do
Move toward client-facing work
Spend more of your time on client conversations, advice and relationship building, which software does poorly. Clients tend to want a person they trust when money is at stake.
Learn how your trading tools decide
Understand what the automated systems you use are doing, where they can go wrong, and when to step in. A dealer who can question a model's output is harder to replace than one who only follows it.
Build skill in complex, unusual situations
Practise handling stressed markets, unusual orders and cases that do not fit a pattern. These need judgement and accountability, and they are where people still add the most. SkillsFuture may be a useful route to broaden these skills.
