Will AI replace strategic planning managers in Singapore?
AI tools can already speed up much of the desk work in this job, such as competitive analysis, forecasting, scenario models and first drafts of business cases and presentations. A lot of that routine analysis is moving to software. Deciding which direction an organisation should take still needs a person, because it depends on judgement, knowledge of the organisation and the trust of senior leaders. The daily work will change a lot, and the people who set direction and defend it are still needed.
Why it scores 7
Strategic planning managers work almost entirely in digital environments (data analysis, modeling, reporting, presentations), and AI can substantially accelerate competitive analysis, forecasting, scenario modeling, and business case development. However, the role requires significant executive judgment, strategic vision, and organizational understanding that resist full automation, preventing a higher score—AI augments but doesn't replace their core decision-making function.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What strategic planning managers can do
Let AI draft the first analysis
Use AI tools to produce early versions of market scans, forecasts and scenario comparisons. Then check the assumptions yourself, since you are the one who answers for the conclusions.
Spend the saved time on judgement
Use the hours freed from data gathering to weigh trade-offs, test ideas with senior colleagues and think through what could go wrong. This is the part of the role that software does not replace.
Build your case for each recommendation
Practise explaining why you chose one option over others, including the risks and what you would change if conditions shift. Leaders rely on planners who can be questioned and still stand behind the advice.
