Will AI replace tea servers in Singapore?
AI is unlikely to replace tea servers in Singapore. The work is physical and happens in person: preparing drinks, carrying them to tables and handling glassware and hot liquids. Software can already take orders through screens or phones, which may change how some of the order-taking is done. Customers still expect a person to bring the drink, notice what they need and keep the table clean and welcoming.
Why it scores 2
Tea servers require physical presence at venues, real-time customer interaction, and manual handling of glassware—tasks that resist automation despite the routine nature of beverage service. While self-service ordering systems could reduce demand for some roles, the core work of preparing and delivering drinks to customers in real-time remains inherently labor-intensive and cannot be performed by AI.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What tea servers can do
Get comfortable with self-ordering tools
If your venue uses screens or phone ordering, learn how they work and how to fix common order mistakes. Staff who can help customers with these systems are useful on the floor.
Build your drink and tea knowledge
Learn how different teas are brewed, served and paired with food. Explaining a choice to a customer is something a screen cannot do well.
Strengthen your service and handling skills
Keep working on carrying, pouring and clearing quickly and safely, and on reading what a table needs without being asked. Ask about SkillsFuture options if you want to move into supervising or training new staff.
