Will AI replace operations officers in Singapore?
AI will probably not replace operations officers in Singapore outright, but much of the daily routine is likely to move to software. Tools can already draft schedules, update records, check data for errors, prepare reports and flag compliance gaps. People are still needed to coordinate with colleagues, suppliers and customers, to settle conflicts between priorities, and to decide what to do when a situation does not fit the usual process.
Why it scores 6
Operations officers work primarily at computers managing processes, data, scheduling, and compliance — tasks highly susceptible to AI automation and augmentation. However, the role retains coordination and decision-making functions that require human judgment and stakeholder engagement, preventing it from reaching very-high exposure (8–9) typical of pure data/reporting roles.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What operations officers can do
Let software draft routine reports and schedules
Try AI tools on the recurring reports, schedules and data entry you do each week. Check their output carefully, because you stay responsible for errors that reach your manager or customers.
Build your skill at handling exceptions
When something breaks the normal process, the fix usually needs judgement and a conversation. Keep notes on how you solve these cases, since they are the part of the job that is hardest to automate.
Strengthen your coordination and negotiation
Working across teams, vendors and stakeholders is where people still add the most. Take on tasks that put you in the middle of those discussions, and look at SkillsFuture options for process improvement or data skills.
