Will AI replace treasury managers in Singapore?
AI is unlikely to replace treasury managers in Singapore, but it will take over much of the routine work. Cash forecasting, reconciliation, data gathering and standard reporting are already moving to software that does them faster. Decisions on hedging, how much cash to hold and how to deal with banks still need a person who knows the company's risks, its appetite for risk and its relationships.
Why it scores 7
Treasury managers work in a fundamentally digital domain involving heavy data analysis, forecasting, and routine cash management operations—all AI-augmentable through better models, automated reporting, and enhanced analytics. However, strategic decision-making on hedging, liquidity management, and bank relationship negotiation require human judgment and organizational context, limiting pure automation. The role will be significantly reshaped toward higher leverage rather than eliminated.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What treasury managers can do
Automate your routine cash reports
Work out which daily cash positions and forecasts can be produced by tools, and set them up to run with little effort. Keep checking the outputs yourself so you spot errors before they reach management.
Sharpen your judgement on hedging choices
Spend more of your time on exposure decisions that depend on context, such as how the business earns and spends in different currencies. Be ready to explain why you chose a position, not just what the model suggested.
Strengthen your bank and board relationships
Negotiating terms and explaining liquidity risk in plain words are tasks software cannot do for you. Invest time in the people on both sides, and use SkillsFuture to build the skills you are missing.
