Will AI replace clinical research coordinators in Singapore?
AI tools can already do a lot of the paperwork in this job, such as entering trial data, filling in forms, tracking documents and checking records against the protocol. That routine work is moving to software quickly, so the daily mix of tasks will change a lot. People are still needed to recruit and reassure patients, work with doctors and nurses, interpret the protocol in real situations, and judge whether something is a compliance problem or an adverse event.
Why it scores 7
Clinical Research Coordinators perform substantially digital work—data entry, documentation, record management, and compliance tracking—much of which is routinizable and automatable. However, meaningful human interaction elements (patient recruitment, clinical team coordination, protocol interpretation) and judgment requirements (compliance decisions, adverse event assessment) prevent this role from reaching 'very high' exposure, placing it firmly in the 'high' category.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What clinical research coordinators can do
Learn to check AI-assisted records
As software takes over data entry and tracking, your value shifts to spotting errors and gaps in what it produces. Practise reviewing records against source documents with a careful eye.
Build your patient recruitment skills
Explaining a study clearly, answering worries and keeping participants engaged are hard to automate. Spend more of your time on conversations with patients and their families.
Deepen your protocol and safety judgement
Decisions about deviations, consent issues and adverse events need a person who understands the study and the rules. Ask senior colleagues to talk through tricky cases with you, and look for SkillsFuture options in research practice and data handling.
