Will AI replace travel consultants in Singapore?
AI will change travel consulting a great deal, and much of the routine work is already moving to software. Searching for flights and hotels, comparing prices, taking bookings and answering common questions are tasks that booking platforms and chatbots can already do well. People still matter for complicated trips, such as group travel, tight schedules or things going wrong mid-journey, where a customer wants someone who listens, understands their situation and takes responsibility. Whether that is enough to keep every role is uncertain, but the work that remains will be more advisory than clerical.
Why it scores 8
Travel consultants and reservation executives perform almost entirely digital work—searching, comparing, booking, and communicating—all tasks that AI and automated platforms (chatbots, recommendation engines, online booking systems) already handle at scale. The occupation is already structurally disrupted by OTAs; remaining value lies in complex trip planning and relationship-building, but routine reservations and inquiries are rapidly automatable.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What travel consultants can do
Focus on complex trip planning
Take on itineraries with several stops, special needs or large groups, where customers want a human to put the pieces together. Software handles simple bookings, so these are the harder cases that stay with you.
Build lasting relationships with clients
Keep track of what each traveller likes and follow up after trips. Customers who trust your judgement are more likely to come back to you than to a booking site.
Learn to work alongside booking tools
Use automated search and drafting tools to handle the repetitive parts of your day, then spend the saved time on advice and problem solving. SkillsFuture offers general routes for building these digital skills.
