Will AI replace contact centre information clerks in Singapore?
Many of the routine parts of this job, such as answering standard questions, checking an order or account status and giving scripted troubleshooting steps, can already be handled by chatbots and automated systems. A lot of this daily work is moving to software, and fewer people may be needed for simple, repetitive enquiries. People still matter when a caller is upset, the case is unusual, or someone needs to be listened to and reassured. The work that stays tends to be the harder cases that software cannot settle on its own.
Why it scores 8
Contact centre information clerk work is primarily digital and routine—handling inquiries, providing standardized information, and processing requests through computer systems. AI chatbots and automated systems can handle the majority of routine cases (account queries, order status, standard troubleshooting), with significant indirect effects: fewer workers needed if automation captures high-volume, repetitive interactions. Real-time customer interaction provides a modest barrier versus pure data entry, but limited judgment required and heavy script-based work keep exposure very high.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What contact centre information clerks can do
Learn how your team's automated tools work
Find out which enquiries the chatbot or automated system handles and where it hands over to a person. Knowing its limits helps you step in on the cases it gets wrong.
Practise handling difficult or unusual calls
Routine questions are the first to be automated, so the calls that remain are often complaints, confusing cases and upset customers. Getting good at calming people and sorting out messy problems makes you harder to replace.
Build skills for a nearby role
Look at roles close to yours, such as case handling, quality checks, or training newer staff, where judgement and knowing the customer matter more. SkillsFuture options can help you pick up the basics before you need to move.
