Will AI replace ICT quality assurance specialists in Singapore?
AI tools can already draft test cases, write and run automated test scripts, suggest edge cases and spot patterns in defect reports, so much of the routine testing work is moving to software. People are still needed to decide what is worth testing, judge whether a result matters to real users and the business, and take responsibility for what ships. Expect the daily work to change a lot, with less time spent writing scripts by hand and more spent checking and directing what the tools produce.
Why it scores 8
ICT QA specialists perform fundamentally digital work—test case design, test automation scripting, defect analysis, and documentation—all conducted on computers. AI is already capable of generating test cases, automating test execution, identifying edge cases, and analyzing defect patterns, directly automating core competencies. While domain expertise and judgment about test strategy remain valuable, most technical tasks are vulnerable to AI productivity multiplication, placing this role at very high exposure comparable to software engineers.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What ICT quality assurance specialists can do
Review AI-written tests critically
Treat generated test cases and scripts as a first draft. Check them for gaps, wrong assumptions and tests that pass without proving anything.
Own the test strategy
Spend more effort on deciding what to test, where the risks are and what a release needs before it is safe. This judgement is harder for software to replace than script writing.
Learn the product and its users
Build deeper knowledge of how real people use the system and what failure costs them. Testers who understand the business can catch problems that automated checks miss.
