Will AI replace IT infrastructure specialists in Singapore?
AI tools can already read logs, flag unusual activity, suggest fixes for common faults, draft configuration files and help plan capacity, so a lot of the routine monitoring and patching work is moving to software. People are still needed to make security decisions, design systems that fit what a business depends on, and judge when a change is safe to roll out. AI is unlikely to replace the whole role soon, but the day-to-day mix of tasks will change a lot.
Why it scores 7
IT infrastructure specialists work entirely on digital systems where routine tasks—patch management, log analysis, capacity planning, configuration management, and basic troubleshooting—are highly amenable to AI automation and augmentation. However, security decisions, complex architecture design, change management judgment, and understanding of business-critical system requirements still require significant human expertise, preventing higher exposure.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What IT infrastructure specialists can do
Automate your routine patching and monitoring
Try letting AI tools draft scripts, summarise logs and flag faults, then check their work yourself. You spend less time on repeat jobs and learn where the tools get things wrong.
Deepen your security and design judgement
Spend more of your time on architecture choices, access controls and risk trade-offs. These decisions depend on knowing the business and its weak points, which software does not see.
Learn which systems the business cannot lose
Talk to the teams that depend on your systems and find out what must never go down. This context helps you review automated changes and decide when a human must step in. SkillsFuture options can help you fill gaps in areas such as cloud or security.
