Will AI replace data analysts in Singapore?

Many of the routine parts of a data analyst's job are already moving to software. AI tools can clean data, run standard models, draw charts and write first drafts of reports, which means one analyst can now cover more work than before. People are still needed to decide which question is worth asking, check that the data is sound, and explain what the results mean for a real decision. Expect the daily work to change a lot, though that is not the same as a forecast of job losses.

Why it scores 8

Statistical officers and data analysts work entirely in digital environments performing computationally-driven tasks (data processing, modeling, visualization, report generation) that AI can directly automate or augment. While domain expertise and business judgment remain valuable, AI-assisted tools significantly boost productivity per analyst, reducing headcount needs. The work is fundamentally computer-based with no physical or real-time human interaction barriers, placing it in the very high exposure tier alongside accountants and graphic designers.

The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.

What data analysts can do

  1. Let AI draft, then check the output

Use AI tools for cleaning data, first-pass analysis and report drafts, and get used to checking their work. Spotting a wrong join, a biased sample or a misleading chart is a skill that stays useful.

  2. Get closer to the business question

Spend more time with the people who use your analysis, and learn what decisions they face. Analysts who frame the right question and explain the answer plainly are harder to replace than those who only produce tables.

  3. Build depth in one field

Pick an area such as health, finance or transport and learn how its data is collected and where it goes wrong. Domain knowledge helps you judge whether an automated result makes sense. SkillsFuture options can help you build it.
