Will AI replace graphic designers in Singapore?
AI tools can already produce layouts, image concepts and many variations of a design in moments, so a lot of the routine production work is moving to software. Fewer people may be needed to turn out the same volume of work, which puts pressure on junior and high-volume roles in particular. People are still needed to understand what a client really wants, set the brand direction, judge which ideas fit, and take responsibility for the finished result.
Why it scores 8
Graphic design is fundamentally digital work, making it inherently vulnerable to AI automation through generative tools (DALL-E, Midjourney, design software plugins) that can create layouts, visual concepts, and variations. The field faces both direct automation of design tasks and indirect pressure from AI-enhanced productivity—fewer designers needed to produce the same volume. However, strategic creative direction, brand strategy, client communication, and high-end conceptual work retain human value, preventing maximum exposure.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What graphic designers can do
Use AI tools for first drafts
Let generative tools handle rough layouts, colour options and quick variations. This frees your time for the choices that need taste and judgement.
Build your brand strategy skills
Practise explaining why a design suits a client's audience and goals. Designers who can shape the idea behind the visuals are harder to replace than those who only produce them.
Get closer to clients and projects
Take on the briefing, feedback and presenting parts of the job, not only the production. Clear conversations with clients are work that software cannot do for you. Look at what SkillsFuture offers for related skills.
