Will AI replace architects in Singapore?
AI tools can already draft layout options, check plans against building rules and test how a design might perform for light, heat and energy. That covers a lot of the routine drawing and checking, so the way architects spend their days is likely to change a good deal. People are still needed to understand what a client really wants, make design judgements, visit sites and take responsibility for the result. Whether firms need fewer architects will depend on how they choose to use these tools.
Why it scores 7
Building architects work primarily in digital environments (CAD, BIM software) where AI can significantly augment productivity through design generation, code compliance automation, and performance optimization. While the creative aspects of design and essential client interaction/site visits provide some insulation, the fundamental digitalization of architectural work combined with AI-driven productivity gains creates structural exposure through workforce contraction.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What architects can do
Learn AI design and checking tools
Try the tools that generate layouts and check plans against rules, using a small real project. Knowing where they help and where they get things wrong lets you work faster without trusting them blindly.
Review every AI output yourself
Check generated drawings and compliance results against the brief, the site and the rules before they go anywhere. Your professional sign-off is what clients and authorities rely on, so careful checking is a skill worth showing.
Build your client and site skills
Spend more of your time on briefing, explaining options to clients and coordinating with engineers and contractors on site. These tasks depend on trust and judgement, and software does them poorly.
