Will AI replace cloud specialists in Singapore?
AI tools can already write much of the routine infrastructure code, automate repeat setup work and help trace faults when something breaks, so a lot of the day-to-day tasks are moving to software. Cloud specialists still decide how systems should be designed, which security and compliance risks are acceptable, and how technology fits what the organisation actually needs. Those calls rely on context and accountability, so AI is more likely to change how the work is done than to remove the need for the role.
Why it scores 7
Cloud specialists work in a fully digital domain where AI can significantly enhance code generation (infrastructure-as-code), infrastructure automation, and operations troubleshooting through tools like GitHub Copilot and cloud-native AI assistants. However, the role retains moderate protection through architectural decision-making, security/compliance strategy, and organizational context that requires human judgment and cannot be fully automated.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What cloud specialists can do
Use AI tools on routine code
Let assistants draft infrastructure scripts and configuration, then review every line yourself. Checking output for errors and unsafe settings is a skill that stays in demand.
Deepen your design and security judgement
Spend more time on architecture choices, access controls and compliance questions, where the trade-offs depend on the organisation. These are the parts AI cannot settle on its own.
Learn to explain technical choices clearly
Practise telling managers and business teams why a design is safe, reliable and worth its cost. Being the person who can justify a decision matters more as the routine work gets automated.
