Will AI replace multimedia artists and animators in Singapore?
AI tools can already make images, short video clips and rough animation from a written prompt, so a lot of the routine production work is moving to software. Tasks like generating backgrounds, filling in frames and trying out visual styles are now quicker with these tools. People still decide what a project should look and feel like, judge whether the result is right for the client, and fix the details that tools get wrong. The work will change a great deal, and the people who guide the tools and own the final result keep their value.
Why it scores 8
Multimedia artist and animator work is entirely digital and directly automatable by generative AI tools—text-to-image, AI video generation, and animation assistance are already mature. The creative medium (digital) lacks natural human-interaction or physical-presence barriers that would protect other roles. However, artistic direction, creative vision, and quality control on high-stakes projects retain some value, preventing a score of 9–10 reserved for routine administrative tasks.
The score reads the job title, not you. Your own exposure depends on your tasks, employer and tools. A high score means the daily work changes, not that the job disappears.
What multimedia artists and animators can do
Use AI tools for early drafts
Try generating rough concepts, backgrounds and in-between frames, then judge what saves time and what needs redoing by hand. Knowing where the tools fall short helps you spend your effort where it counts.
Build a clear personal style
Develop a look and a way of telling stories that clients recognise as yours. A distinct voice is harder to copy than generic output from a tool.
Take on direction and review work
Practise leading a project, giving feedback and checking quality from concept to final delivery. Clients still need someone to be responsible for the finished piece and to keep it consistent.
